yep i've been loveing my new new house its great i got my own studio and heaps of space, but on saturday my room flooded!! not my undercover studio! i'll post some pics when i can be bothered. my beds stuffed and my carpet, thanks god my computer still works, my house mate saved it cause it was on the ground. i was hung over and at work contemplating quiting (what i do every week!) when i go the call, i havent been brave enough to check if my work from last year and well almost everything i've ever done is ok. its on the ground in suit cases in another shed. well i i thought i'd share this story although i'm not quite shure anyone is reading this blog anymore. so till next time.....

Yes, it indeed was freakkkkky... I am happy to say that we confidently won the dance-off, Im pretty sure. Skeletons, hat tricks, acro-balance, a spotlight on Danielle Freakley with the danish royals stuck to her head humping a tombstone....it was a bonzanza of badness. Even Tom cut his hair and put mince meat under a wig and then took it off when we snuck a little snippet of 'dreamweaver' in between Missy...funny stuff!

thats right i have no life its almost midnight on a sat night and i'm in front of my computer in my bedroom!! anyway i'm pretty excited about this is not launch thing. i dont know about everyone else but i love dressing up. i dont really care what i dress up as. i remember going to a party for the begining of spring i think, well anyway someone thought it was a dress up party and they came as a bee, it was the best bee costume ever!! but yeah thats me. i could write about my dream last night but maybe some other time. so even if only a few people are really into it, it could be a whole lot of fun. (not talking about my dream).

hay i was just thinking it would be a nice idea if that first operation morning air poster was up in the blog maybe like a sourt of statement or something. might be good to read, cause i dont really remember what was on it. also so people get an idea of some kind of intention, and what brought us together in the first place. well i now have a life and am off to a party!! hoot hoot.

Is Not Update and Exhibition Thoughts..

Hey OMA types,

This is Penny from is Not Mag posting an update. First of all, we are so excited that some of you would like to be in the launch exhibition. Tai has probably told you that, since our last discussion, the size of the exhibited works has changed to A0. This is because of our designers' enthusiasm for big stuff. Don't even ask. Anyway - I think that bigger is better. We're still looking for work to be presented in black and white and we're asking that it be submitted either as a hard copy (of minimum A3 size) or as a high resolution A3 digital file. Have you had any ideas about 'representing' OMA at the party (other than as exhibitors)? Let me know your thoughts.

The exhibition will be at least a one-night paste-up. It will be held in the city on Friday 7th October - so we'll need submissions by Monday 3rd October. I will keep you posted on the plans in more detail soon.

In other news, our lecture went well last Wednesday at Melbourne Uni (thanks to good OMA brainstorm on the Friday before). I tried to look at the potential for 'independent media' to influence and displace mainstream media. And also I tried to question the tendency to define 'independent media' in opposition to the mainstream - in the sense that maintstream partly just means 'established', 'profitable' and 'widespread'. The question is how can independent media cross this gulf into sustainability without losing its 'independence' in other senses? I know there's a way... Anyway, let the debate continue. In other news - guess who came to our presentation? The famous Scott Parkin - American peaceful protestor, now in custody as a national 'security threat'. Out of control. Can't wait to get his side of the story - he has signed up to the Is Not Friendly Society.. Anyway, have a great week,

Hey everyone, Tai here.

That's right, Im back. In fact I will see you all today- got back yesterday. Geez, New York is one crazy city. Helps a lot when you think Melbourne is all too much, just take a week over there and this feels like a meditation retreat!
Went to a few really great shows when I was there- the obvious (MOMA, Guggenheim, Whitney, Met) but also a great emerging art show called Greater New York at a place called PS1 Its an amazing building that used to be an old public school, now filled with 160 installations and works that absolutely blew me away.
Also went to a really great show at the New Museum in Chelsea which had a great net-based show on called Rhizome artbase 101 (anyone that doesnt know what a Rhizome is - look it up!) and they had a documentation of a work on display called Nike Ground whereby a team of international artists employed internet-based marketing srategies (web sites and e-releases) to fool the city of Vienna into thinking that their beloved public Karlplatz had been aquired by Nike and was to be supplanted by a huge Swoosh and called Nikeplatz. Its funny, check it out at There was also a work in that show by animation group (crazy motherfuckers) Paper Rad. They are amazing- check out their website at Phew! it was a crazy trip to say the least.

I dont know about you guys but i have SOOOOO been enjoying our friday after speaker sessions!!! So far these talks [lucas and nuca, penny and is not, neurocam etc] have been really interesting especially under the umbrellas of un-art and collaborations.

I read a post from [i think] tai where she was saying stuff about thinking small and then working up to somehting bigger - and i agree. I mean after all I dont even know anyone in this gang except for sarah and tai and marcel [ive seen him there a few weeks]. The rest of you dudes i only know by face/haircut/style. etc etc etc. I can remember one guy with long sandy coloured hair [i think its shaved underneath] and sometimes he wore a hoody, and another girl with wide eyes and black medium length hair - i think she has a fringe too . . . what are their names????
so what i propose is that we go and get drunk TOGETHER or share cake or play twister or something TOGETHER.

another thing i thought was that maybe we can start doing small/micro activities in our group sesh and start looking at shit to do over the long term - you know??? maybe stupid shit or daggy shit or fun shit or wierd shit or shit shit???? maybe thats a fun place to start??? i dont know but see what yas think . . .

hey by the way does anyone like games?? i love games . . . board games, group games [not really normal sporty games like cricket or footy or netball], party games are good too . . . tell me what you think.

Much thanks to Lucas for coming down from Sydney to get us talking last week. For those who missed it, check out his links and hope like hell to meet him in the future...
I definately like the idea of weekly projects that we can plan for the following week, and I also like the idea of attempting to break the claustrophobia/long table feel of the space and work out in the real world from time to time... I also really got into the idea of 'living it up on the cheap', cleaning up the intellectual vomit and using hospitality as a way to create opportunity thru generosity.
Lucas also mentioned a perfmance duo called 'Lone Twin' (the guys that dragged the telegraph pole through the states) who deal with ideas of travel, place, endurance, human interaction and kindness. They are indeed taking up a residency during the Melbourne Festival and have 4 performances during October, so maybe we can go along to one of them? the following paragraph is from a conference called free collaboration which happened in Department of Media Study The State University of New York at Buffalo in 2004... this is a lil extract which might be interesting to think about in relation to the question "how do we come together?" cheers, Lucas

In a forced collaboration we are nobody, we are traumatized. Are the rules fair or self-serving and convenient for certain members of the cooperation? Some rules can be bent, others broken. It needs to be a fair exchange. “There are no rules but the ‘old rules.’”(Gayatri Spivak) In a free cooperation the political person is not separated from the everyday person.
We expect that somebody in the group says what we have to do and then that. Without personal gain it does not work, it would be an unrealistic cooperation.
Cooperations must pay off for each participant. And they need be workable without consensus. Free cooperation is about loyalty to people but not to structures as a free cooperation is re-evaluated time and again. In this model self-reflective people don't stand others in the way.

what a crazy session i hope everyone said what they wanted to say today. i sure felt frazzled cause there was so much information to take in. ive lost my train of thought but i am liking being challenged. working in a group isn't easy! it can be easy to feel alienated so if ever you feel like you can't verbalise your thoughts in discussion voice yourelf on the blogg or individually. OMA is all about everyone finding their way of expressing themselves. i love how vague this all sounds but i hope it makes some sort of sense!!!!!!!!! have a good week until i see you next friday. we will be having the class in the tut room in drawing then in the lab. tai will be leaving for new york on the day for the class. Make sure you send us some pictures to update us on the TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had fun today, wish i could find out more about what you all do and your interests etc.

will be back in melb in early oct, maybe i'll check in again. in the meantime, my suggestions for progress:

-have your next meeting at melanie's show at the george paton gallery - that way you get to put her application of "convivial" space to the test! will be useful for her, and might shift you out of the classroom feel.

-make short term goals. rather than trying to come up with something you all have to agree on for the whole term, just do something which has a deadline of a week. that way, you can cycle through a series of experiments and you dont have to feel the pressure of committing to one only strategy.

-use OMA to experiment with ideas you are thinking about already for your other classes. that way, you get a free space to try something out (without the pressure of your teachers), and you double up your energy expense - one project will have 2 outcomes.

This morning i considered shaving away my eyebrow hairs in order to stop the fall of dandruff past my eyes.
When i see i see about me endless wintery days. When i squint the dermititus snow shows the spectrum flayed.
Once upon a wanton whim i chased upon a northwest wind the spin of a falling shard of skin and found a way away from now... no longer did i write nor think but like the wash in a kitchen sink i was filled with scraps of everything and reflected somewhat more, the all, the whole, potentially, though who could ever speak that much!... But... then again there-here fell the now, wedded to the they and the thinking of the morrow...

The excrement of idling time about my throat tied as a tie, 'once opened doors but now i find in every doorway utility's scowl.

Why don't we sniff through drains, naked from waist to feet; paint with clotted hair on heads the belly's of collins street's ontic dilletantes; piss upon the feet of blue clad pigs bullying the beat; blow smooches at the sky, follow the after images of self smashed streetlights across the wink of dawn, reading in their fading dance the becoming of the what may be, pure possibility in imagination's froth and spray.
